Our Review Process
Every score, ranking, and recommendation on CorporateMavens is backed by a consistent, repeatable methodology. Here’s exactly how we do it.
We Don’t Just Read the Sales Page
Most LLC review sites pull their data straight from each company’s marketing copy — they never actually sign up, never test the support, and never check whether the advertised price matches what you’re actually charged at checkout.
We do things differently. Every service we review gets a real account, a real order, and real support interactions. Our scores reflect the actual experience of a first-time LLC founder — not a polished press kit.
Our methodology is the same for every review, so rankings are directly comparable. When we say ZenBusiness scores higher than LegalZoom, it’s because we measured both against the same criteria, at the same time.
Our Scoring Criteria
Updated Monthly
Pricing and features change often. We re-verify our data every month and update reviews when anything changes.
How We Review Every Service
A 6-step process that takes 2–4 weeks per service from start to publication.
Initial Research & Pricing Audit
We begin by cataloguing every plan the service offers — prices, features, and what’s actually included vs. what costs extra. We check the pricing page, the checkout flow, and any fine print around renewals or auto-billing.
Live Signup & Platform Walkthrough
A reviewer creates a real account and completes a test LLC filing — or goes as far through the process as possible. We document the entire experience: how long each step takes, what upsells appear, how clear the instructions are, and whether the advertised price matches the checkout total.
Customer Support Testing
We contact each company’s support team through every available channel — live chat, phone, and email — with a standard set of questions. We measure response time, accuracy of the answers, and how the team handles a billing dispute scenario.
Feature Scoring Against Our Rubric
Every service is scored on our 5-category rubric: Pricing & Value (25%), Features & Inclusions (20%), Ease of Use (20%), Customer Support (20%), and Upsell Transparency (15%). Scores are calculated independently by the reviewer before being reviewed by a second team member.
Writing & Editorial Review
The reviewer writes the article based on their direct experience and scored rubric. A second editor checks every factual claim, verifies current pricing against the live site, and ensures the recommendation matches the data — not the affiliate commission rate.
Ongoing Monitoring & Updates
Publication isn’t the end. We re-check pricing on every reviewed service monthly. When a provider changes their plans, adjusts pricing, or modifies their registered agent terms, we update the review within days — not months. A “Last Updated” date at the top of every review reflects exactly when we last verified the data.
What We Actually Measure
Five categories, each weighted to reflect what matters most to a first-time LLC founder.
Pricing & Value
We compare what you actually pay at checkout (not the advertised price), what’s included in each tier, how renewal pricing compares, and whether the features justify the cost for a typical new LLC owner.
Features & Inclusions
Operating agreement, EIN assistance, registered agent service, compliance calendar, annual report reminders — we check what’s genuinely included vs. what requires an upsell.
Ease of Use
How long does the signup flow take? Are instructions clear? Is the dashboard intuitive for a non-lawyer? We time the process and note every moment of confusion a first-time user would experience.
Customer Support
We contact support via chat, phone, and email with identical questions. Scored on response speed, quality of answers, and ability to resolve a simulated billing dispute without a runaround.
Upsell Transparency
We track every add-on offer, auto-renewal, and dark-pattern upsell that appears during and after signup. Services that are clear about what costs extra score higher than those that hide fees until checkout.
